Job Summary:
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and safety
- Maintain compliance with ContourGlobal’s safe work practices outline in the organizations Health & Safety Management System.
- Support fellow work partners to help ensure job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
- Communicate any unsafe work condition or hazard to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.
- Report any Health & Safety incident, realized or potential to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.
- Participate in Health & Safety activities as requested i.e. Incident investigations, inspections, effectiveness reviews and best practice sharing.
Main Duties.
- Tests, maintains, calibrates, programs and/or troubleshoot (with the appropriate test equipment) instrumentation and controls system components and peripheral devices utilizing schematics, vendor manuals and procedures
- Provides accurate detailed work history for reporting, data inputting and archiving
- Evaluates and recommends equipment and techniques to cost effectively improve plant and maintenance department reliability//efficiency.
- Participates in the development of standard operating procedures for routine functions and provide training to other technicians.
- Participates in the development of preventive maintenance procedures for maintaining system hardware.
- Participates in a rotating night/weekend call-out program & periodically works scheduled and un-scheduled night and weekend assignments.
- Periodically work in adverse conditions such as rainy, hot/humid and cold weather conditions
- Participates in and implements safety programs to minimize personnel injury and property loss.
- Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems.
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
- Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts.
- Conduct trouble shooting and analysis on DCS, PLC and MK V turbine control equipment.
- Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor.
- Other duties as directed by Supervisor.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager, works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant and responds to direction from the Lead Maintenance Technician in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications and Skills:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable.
- Four years work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable.
- Must be able to work from blueprints.
- Must be skilled in the use of hand and power driven tools.
- Must successfully complete an IC&E test.
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts highly desirable. Must have strong personal computer skills.
- Knowledge of computer systems and software as well as a knowledge of instrumentation and electrical theory and principles, test equipment usage, common and special instrument and electrical tools, safety and good instrument/electrical maintenance practices and techniques
- Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting up to fifty (75) pounds.
- Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.).
- Work with hazardous materials may be required.
- Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with weekend and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. "On-call" status will periodically be required.
- There are extensive smoking restrictions, in and around the facility.
- Driving on company business is a requirement of this position and as such, the incumbent shall have and maintain a valid driver’s license
Travel Requirements – This position will require plant travel.
