Job Summary:


The Operations and Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing the daily operations of the plant and overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment. This position directs the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifies the areas that may need improvement or further development assuring that plant operating conditions are always kept within optimum limits. The position also works with the maintenance department on the implementation of the plant's Maintenance Program and identifies those items that need improvement or additional work. Works with the plant operating staff and maintenance department to assure plant facilities and equipment are always maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition. 


Key Responsibilities:


Health and safety

  • Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its respective safe work practices, i.e., Permit to Work, Management of Change, Contractor Safety etc.
  • Coach and mentor facility employee through engagement on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System and its respective expectations and through on-going participation of in Health & Safety activities i.e., inspection, incident investigation and visible felt leadership.
  • Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
  • Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e., Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.


Main Duties

  • Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e., Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.
  • Ensure that thermal and electrical outputs are maintained at maximum levels and efficiencies.
  • Report normal, abnormal or emergency plant conditions to the Operations Manager. Take necessary corrective action in accordance with established policy or at the direction of the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager.
  • Provide guidance to the maintenance supervisor relative to equipment conditions and required maintenance activities.
  • Maintain the Environmental QA/QC Manual and ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the timely preparation and/or oversight required for routine and non-routine reports to NERC, WECC, and other applicable registered entities.
  • Monitors compliance programs and insures all registered entity functions are in compliance with those programs. Evaluates, develops, and recommends new programs for integration into facility operations.
  • Assists with the training of all plant personnel and maintain the plant Training Manual.
  • Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility.
  • Oversee the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and records.
  • Maintain the plant Operations Manuals and assure that operating policies and procedures are kept up-to-date.
  • Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee concerns as they arise.
  • Ensure that the water chemistry program for the plant is properly implemented, including testing, inspections, and maintenance of water treatment program. Provide guidance to the chemist in administering the chemistry program.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager.
  • Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operating personnel.
  • Oversee the activities of maintenance personnel in performing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist with implementation of the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records.
  • Provide trend information to the Operations Manager.
  • Provide task lists and schedules for plant maintenance and contractor personnel for normal operating periods, planned outage periods, and forced outage situations.
  • Maintain the plant's Maintenance Manual and assure that vendor maintenance and repair manuals are properly filed and kept up-to-date.
  • Sustain the morale and motivation of operations personnel and handle employee grievances as they arise.
  • Assist with the location, screening and hiring of operations personnel.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager.
  • Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. "On-Call" status will periodically be required.

  • Effectively use the organizational framework to capture, implement, and reward improvement initiatives.
  • Encourage the team members to identify and initiate improvements and innovations that will enhance the maintenance department safety and reliability, work productivity, cost reduction, and quality of client service.

 

Management

 

  • Provide direction and oversight to direct reports including objective setting and performance reviews.
  • Ensure training and development of the team members improving their professional skills.
  • Resolve employee issues, engaging Human Resources as necessary when relevant.
  • Be responsible for the effectiveness of the Management System and its integration into business processes.
  • Engage, direct and support team members who contribute to the effectiveness of the Management System. 
  • Support other management roles to demonstrate leadership.

 

Working Relationships

 

  • The Operations and Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and supervises subordinate operations personnel.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • 5+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • Gas turbine experience highly desirable.
  • Power generation or continuous manufacturing experience highly desired.
  • Strong electrical and microprocessor-based control background, strong rotating equipment experience and an ability to use personal computer based preventive and predictive maintenance tools desired.
  • At least 2 years’ experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel required.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • Driving on company business is a requirement of this position and as such, the incumbent shall have and maintain a valid driver’s license. 

 

Travel Requirements – This position will require occasional business trips.

 

Salary range:  $120,000.00 - $135,000.00
