JOB SUMMARY:

The Plant Operator is responsible for monitoring the status of all Plant systems on a continuous basis at the direction of the Control Room Operator. The Plant Operator executes Plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required. The Plant Operator will also support in maintenance of the facility as assigned by the Plant Manager and Operations Manager. The Plant Operator ensures that the Plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain compliance with ContourGlobal’s safe work practices outlined in the Organization's Health & Safety Management System.
  • Support fellow work partners to help ensure job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
  • Communicate any unsafe work condition or hazard to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.
  • Report any Health & Safety incident, realized or potential to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.
  • Participate in Health & Safety activities as requested i.e., Incident investigations, inspections, effectiveness reviews and best practice sharing.
  • Complete Control Room Operator training and testing within 24 months.
  • Ensure that the daily log and other Plant records are completed, in a timely and accurate  manner; including electrical output, steam output, emissions output, fuel consumed, water consumed, and heat rates.
  • Complete water chemistry and make necessary changes as directed by the water-treating vendor.
  • Make multiple plant rounds looking and listening for things that could be wrong.
  • Conduct periodic log and record reviews, to ensure that tag-out procedures, equipment status, and designated administrative systems are functioning effectively.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of Plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Actively supports the Maintenance team in the execution of maintenance plans by providing lock-out/tag-out support, equipment identification, troubleshooting, work request preparation, electrical and mechanical maintenance, or other areas as needed.
  • Fully support and actively participate in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Strives for excellence and looks for opportunity to improve/make work more efficient and with higher quality.
  • Analyzes issues and identifies the root cause of a near miss/failure and take actions to eliminate it in the future.
  • Effectively uses CG practices/methodology for continuous improvement.
  • Complete other tasks, as requested by the Line Manager.

 

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four (4) years of high school is required.
  • An Associate Degree, in a technical field is desirable.
  • Experience as a Plant Operator or equivalent position in an operating or generating Plant is highly desirable.
  • Experience in water chemistry control, water condition analysis, water treatment facility operations and chemical-handling requirements is desired.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed-system generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of Plant parameters is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in the direct operation of a combined-cycle-large-frame gas turbine Power Plant preferred.
  • Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is desirable.
  • Extensive working knowledge of Power Plant industry is desirable.
  • Must have excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting fifty (50) pounds.
  • Protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, and others, must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • This position requires working twelve (12)-hour rotating shifts, with the possibility of overtime, weekend, and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions.

 

 

This position reports hierarchically to Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.
