Job Summary:
The Auxiliary Operator is responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the Power Plant, and the supporting equipment and systems. The Auxiliary Operator carries out all routine water/gas chemistry analysis, inspects and monitors operating components, and reports Plant status. The Auxiliary Operator will also support in the maintenance of the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and safety
- Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its respective safe work practices, i.e., Permit to Work, Management of Change, and Contractor Safety etc.
- Coach and mentor facility employee through engagement on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System and its respective expectations and through on-going participation of in Health & Safety activities i.e., inspection, incident investigation and visible felt leadership.
- Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
- Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e., Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.
Main Duties
- Performs work, as assigned by the Operations Manager based on assignments, obtains direct guidance from the Control Room Operator.
- Assists with operations of equipment, and monitors operational parameters, ensuring reliability and continuous operability of equipment.
- Operates and maintains a wide variety of Power Plant equipment.
- Maintain operations of chemical-pumping system, ensuring optimal chemistry control, and equipment reliability.
- Assists with maintenance activities; to include mechanical work, and electrical repair activities.
- Performs or assists with, depending on the level of complexity, preventive maintenance actions.
- Performs or assists with, depending on the level of complexity, planned maintenance (PM), and routine repairs to damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
- Withdraws parts and supplies from inventory; and completes usage reports, to report such withdrawals, in the Plant's inventory control system. Assists in physical inventory.
- Works on and repairs rotating equipment, chemical systems, and water-processing equipment.
- Performs or assists, with chemical handling and off-loads.
- Performs emergency operations and maintenance, to maintain production and safeguard facility equipment.
- Obtains direction from other team members to effect changes in Plant conditions and chemistry.
- Actively supports the Maintenance team in the execution of maintenance plans; by providing lock-out/tag-out support, equipment identification, troubleshooting, work request preparation, or other areas, as needed.
- Fully supports and participates, in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required
- Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. "On-call" status periodically required.
- Complete other tasks, as requested by the Line Manager.
Continuous improvement
- Effectively use the organizational framework to capture, implement, and reward improvement initiatives.
- Encourage the team members to identify and initiate improvements and innovations that will enhance the maintenance department's safety and reliability, work productivity, cost reduction, and quality of client service.
Working Relationships
The Auxiliary Operator reports to the Operations Manager.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment, as would be acquired in four (4) years of high school.
- Associate degree, in a technical field, desirable.
- Experience in a Power Plant environment desired, preferably as a Power Plant Technician, or equivalent position.
- Experience working with high-pressure turbines, combustion turbines, and familiarity with associated equipment.
- Experience in water chemistry control, condition analysis, water treatment facility operations, and chemical-handling requirements are desired.
- Strong aptitude in math, and mechanical/electrical ability, desired.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion-turbine operations, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of Plant parameters, is highly desirable.
- Experience with piping and instrument schematics, and process controls, desirable.
- Mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment knowledge, is desired.
