Site Level Health, Safety, & Environmental Specialist
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ContourGlobal is seeking a candidate with a minimum of 5 years of health, safety, & environmental compliance, regulatory compliance, or similar industry experience to join our team as a Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) Specialist. The individual will report directly to the Local Plant Manager & Regional HSEQ Manager.
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Assist the facility with ensuring that the company complies with all applicable regulations, mitigates potential liabilities and helps avoid penalties, sanctions or other legal punishment. The regulatory scope includes, but is not limited to local, state, and federal HSE rules/regulations, NFPA rules, and other similar international H&S consensus standards.
- Lead in the review and implementation of corporate HSE policies, standards and procedures to comply with applicable policies.
- Lead in the development and implementation of local HSE policies, standards, and procedures to comply with applicable policies.
- Perform required weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspection & reporting activities.
- Providing HSE assistance to management, supervisors, employees, and collateral duty safety representatives
- Developing and delivering HSE training in one-on-one, group, classroom, and/or web-delivered media.
- Maintain proactive lines of communication with all relevant decision makers and stakeholders to keep all parties informed of HSE regulatory activities/status.
- Provide regulatory oversight, leadership, and direction to personnel regarding the day-to-day compliance with HSE permits and regulations.
- Assist with developing HSE budgets and managing expenses related to regulatory.
- Interpret laws, regulations, and permit requirements, and assist the facility with staying abreast of the changing regulatory landscape to help management anticipate, shape and comply with potential new requirements.
- Coordinate and perform periodic plant HSE audits to ensure that the applicable regulatory requirements are being meet.
- Provide professional interface with regulators and officials, including preparing for and coordinating inspections, responding to information requests, developing strategies, permit modifications and renewals, and reviewing routine compliance.
- Work closely with all departments and employees to contribute technical and regulatory expertise necessary for optimal operation and management of prepare periodic reports as required.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Provide coaching, assistance, and tools to all levels of the business to promote and drive a safe working environment for all employees.
- Manage contractors and/or vendors related to HSE related activities.
- Conducting incident reports and entering reports and findings into HSE management systems.
- Performing HSE audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Providing specialty safety services and assessments addressing requirements that include ergonomics and industrial hygiene.
- Providing outreach to agency employees, promoting HSE awareness throughout the organization.
- Investigating complaints and reports of unsafe or unhealthful working conditions; provide recommendations for abatement action; and verify completion of abatement action.
- Maintaining recordkeeping for injury/illness cases in accordance with OSHA requirements
- Other HSE and managerial duties as assigned.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETANCIES:
- Be able to communicate clearly and efficiently with individuals at different levels throughout the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a record of consensus-building among internal and external parties.
- An ability to review regulations, decipher them, and be able to pinpoint applicable regulatory requirements.
- The ability to communicate the applicable regulatory requirements in a way individuals at all levels of the organization can clearly understand the requirements and what needs to be done in order to comply.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member, to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources.
- Perform and manage multiple tasks in an industrial environment and to promptly identify and analyze complex compliance risks.
- Computer literate, with expert-level knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
- High level of commitment to excellence in regulatory performance and compliance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills as well as good planning and organizational skills.
- Maintain a valid driver's license. Driving in company business is a requirement of this position.
- Overnight and short-term travel on company business is an expected part of this position, 25% travel to other facilities and off-site activities.
- Must be able to perform repetitive and non-repetitive physical duties. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, climbing, working in awkward positions, and lifting 50 lbs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Associates or undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant program area and some specialization in the relevant fields, preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Health, Safety, & Environmental Field, preferably in the power industry, preferred.
