Job Summary:

The Instrumentation, Controls, & Electrical (IC&E) Technician is primarily responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment, in the Power Plant and associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all electronic and electrical Power Plant equipment and systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Health and safety

 

  • Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its respective safe work practices, i.e., Permit to Work, Management of Change, and Contractor Safety etc.
  • Coach and mentor facility employee through engagement on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System and its respective expectations and through on-going participation of in Health & Safety activities i.e., inspection, incident investigation and visible felt leadership.
  • Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
  • Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e., Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.

 

Main Duties

  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems, as well as emergency backup systems.
  • Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings, for all designated equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling spare-parts inventory, to maintain Plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of Plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Work shifts, as required to support the operation of the Plant.
  • Inspect, repair, install, and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries; and work with electrical systems, up to and including 4,160 volts.
  • Conduct trouble shooting and analysis on Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and turbine-control equipment.
  • Maintain all Plant instrumentation and electrical test equipment.
  • Fully support and participate in CG Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs.
  • Complete other tasks, as assigned by Maintenance Manager.

Continuous improvement

  • Strives for excellence and looks for opportunity to improve/make work more efficient and with higher quality.
  • Analyzes issues and identifies the root cause of a near miss/failure and take actions to eliminate it in the future.
  • Effectively uses CG practices/methodology for continuous improvement.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager; and responds to direction from the Maintenance Planner, in the absence of the Plant Manager. Works in cooperation with the operating utility, regarding matters pertaining to the daily operation of the Plant.

 

Qualifications and sklills
▪ Ability to understand procedures and instructions, specific to the area of assignment, as would be acquired in four (4) years of high school.
▪ Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program desirable.
▪ Experience with MP2 or other Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
▪ Work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry.
▪ Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
▪ Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as ability to apply creative solutions, to unique Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) issues.
▪ Excellent organizational skills.
▪ Ability to use most common computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
▪ Must be able to work from blueprints.
▪ Experience in a Power Plant environment preferred, to include the following:

  • Instrumentation and control systems used in modern power stations, including burner management, combustion control, boiler controls, turbine controls, and machine-condition monitoring.
  • Electrical systems used in modern power stations, including 13.8 KV switchgear and motors, 4,160 volt-switchgear and motors, 480-volt motors and control centers, transformers, batteries, inverters and chargers, main generator, and excitation equipment.


▪ Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
▪ Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
▪ Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions.
▪ There are extensive smoking restrictions, in and around the facility.
