Job Summary:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all Power Plant mechanical, electrical, instrument, and control equipment is maintained, in safe, reliable, and efficient operating conditions; and coordinates all maintenance and repairs of Plant facilities and equipment. The incumbent evaluates Plant maintenance requirements; and coordinates related work, with other Plant departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and safety


  • The Maintenance Manager is ultimately responsible for producing a safe and hazard-free work environment for the facility.
  • This position requires continuous engagement with plant staff at all levels to identify, correct and ensure effectiveness of controls related to hazards and their respective risks during normal and maintenance activities throughout the facility.
  • The Maintenance Manager must lead by example utilizing a high working knowledge of the Contour Global H&S management system and respective safe work practices i.e. Permit to Work, Management of Change, Contractor Safety etc.
  • The Maintenance Manager should actively participate in Health & Safety activities not limited to routine inspection, incident investigation, engagement with regulatory authorities and visible felt leadership with all persons (contractor and company employees) as a part of their routine work.
  • Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e. Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Operational Leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.


Main Duties


  • Oversee the activities of Maintenance employees, in performing maintenance and repair activities in a safe and efficient manner, consistent with Company policies, procedures, and station maintenance manual and technical specifications.
  • Implement Plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records; and provide trend information to Plant Manager.
  • The Maintenance Manager will work with the station’s North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) coordinator, to ensure NERC-required testing is completed, within the procedural timeframes. The NERC Coordinator will file test reports, for documentation of work being completed.
  • Coordinate maintenance project activities, by scheduling work, monitoring performance, and providing technical expertise and direction; to ensure that work is performed in a safe, timely, and productive manner.
  • Develop and administer contracts and work scope, for external contractors; to ensure maximum efficiency, in the use of Plant and contractor employees.
  • Determine project maintenance requirements, by following preventive and predictive maintenance programs; and reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing maintenance work requests, in order to establish job steps, estimate man hours, and specify part and equipment needs.
  • Provide maintenance training for operating shift technicians, by presenting instructions regarding job-related skills, and proper equipment repair procedures. Ensure that safety is built into each job assigned, and that work is performed in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Coordinate maintenance work interfaces with other Plant departments, to accomplish repairs, in a timely and safe manner.
  • Prepare and maintain various reports and records, that are required to verify the completion of project maintenance work; and provide historical information, for future maintenance planning.
  • Investigate and study new ideas, methods, and technology, related to Power Plant maintenance.
  • Recommend and implement improvements, which will maximize the efficiency of maintenance work; and reduce future maintenance requirements. Ensure new methods are implemented, through updating maintenance procedures and training.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to employees, in the preparation of maintenance work requests.
  • Review Work Orders for completeness and accuracy and ensure Work Orders are properly entered and completed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Determine project maintenance requirements; by helping implement preventive maintenance programs, evaluating maintenance work requests, and coordinating manpower needs, work prioritization, parts procurement, and equipment scheduled outages.
  • Participate in the maintenance of project operating and maintenance manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Assist with the location, screening, and hiring of Maintenance employees.
  • System expert program: Direct employees responsible for collateral duties of assigned Plant systems (ordering spare parts, maintaining up-to-date drawings, identifying milestones/due dates, documenting on-going work in progress, etc.


Continuous improvement


  • Encourage Plant personnel to identify and initiate operational improvements and innovations that will enhance plant safety and reliability, work productivity, cost reduction, and quality of client service.
  • Provide an organizational framework to capture, implement, and reward operational improvement initiatives.




  • Provide direction and oversight to maintenance personnel including objective setting and performance reviews.
  • Ensure training and development of maintenance team members improving their professional skills.
  • Resolve employee issues on site, engaging Human Resources as necessary.
  • Be responsible for the effectiveness of the Management System and its integration into business processes.
  • Engage, direct and support team members who contribute to the effectiveness of the Management System. Support other management roles to demonstrate leadership




The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate Maintenance employees. The Maintenance Manager cooperates with the Operations Manager as needed, in the daily operation of the Plan.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extensive Power Plant combined-cycle maintenance technical and leadership experience; with a work history, that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.
  • Technical undergraduate degree, or equivalent work experience, desired.
  • Experience supervising non-exempt employees; strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • Strong electrical and microprocessor-based control background, strong rotating equipment experience, and ability to use computer-based preventive and predictive maintenance tools desired.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to complete assigned projects, in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated successful management of major Plant outages.
  • Demonstrated work order planning and prioritization. 
  • Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods, as well as stair and ladder climbing.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.).
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. "On-call" status will periodically be required.
  • Some travel may be required, to participate in Manager, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
  • There are extensive smoking restrictions, in and around the facility.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, and requirements may vary.


Travel RequirementsThis position will require occasional business trips.
