Maintenance Technician 

Location/Hobbs, NM 

 

Job Summary 

As Maintenance Technician, you will join our Operations team! In this role, you will report to the Maintenance Manager and will have the opportunity to install, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment across our combined cycle power plant, including turbines, generators, pumps, valves, and auxiliary systems, while ensuring strict adherence to safety and environmental standards. Join us to drive the right power forward and make clean energy the natural choice for all! 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:  
  

 Health and safety  

 

  • Maintain compliance with ContourGlobal’s safe work practices outline in the organizations Health & Safety Management System. o Adept at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, with mechanical equipment; and possesses the ability to apply a resolution, in a timely manner. 

  • Support fellow work partners to help ensure job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.  

  • Communicate any unsafe work condition or hazard to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.  

  • Report any Health & Safety incident, realized or potential to your Health & Safety Manager or Operational leader immediately.  

  • Participate in Health & Safety activities as requested i.e., Incident investigations, inspections, effectiveness reviews and best practice sharing.  

 

Main Duties   

 

  • Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective Plant equipment, such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.  

  • Perform piping and conduit installation in the Plant, for system upgrades and modifications.  

  • Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, milling machine, pipe threading machine, grinder, and other various tools to make and repair parts and equipment.  

  • Capable of operating welding and cutting equipment, and able to complete metal fabrication projects.  

  • Competently operates and maintains combined-cycle power generating facility equipment, with minimal guidance or assistance, as directed by and in coordination, with Plant management.  

  • Maintains equipment, by tightening fittings, replacing valve packings, gaskets, valves, and gauges. Cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating other component parts and equipment, as required.  

  • Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices, to record data, such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure and fluid levels, and water chemistry, to verify operating conditions.  

  • Participate in the Plant's preventive maintenance program, by performing routine maintenance duties, including use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and the collection of trending information, for the Operations or Maintenance Manager.  

  • Assist in maintaining and controlling spare-parts inventory, to maintain Plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.  

  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. 

  • Complete other tasks, as assigned by the Maintenance and Plant Manager.  

 
 

Qualifications and Skills:

Qualifications: 

  •  High school diploma or equivalent required.  

  •  Minimum four (4) years of experience as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or in a similar industrial environment. 

Skills: 

  • Proficiency in maintaining and overhauling mechanical equipment including turbines, pumps, valves, compressors, and other balance-of-plant systems.  

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to resolve mechanical issues efficiently.  

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and mechanical drawings (e.g., P&IDs).  

  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment (winches, hoists, slings).  

  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.  

  • Basic welding and fabrication skills are preferred.  

  • Experience in combined cycle power plants or similar power generation facilities preferred.  

  • Strong commitment to safety and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.  

  • Effective communication skills.  

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.  

  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds, and work in environments involving hazardous materials. 

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50-75lbs on a regular basis.  

  • Perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.  

  • Work at heights (ladders, platforms, structures) while maintaining balance and coordination.  

  • Perform repetitive motions (gripping, twisting, tool use).  

  • Ener and work in confined or restricted spaces (as applicable).
