Job Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for providing management direction and leadership, to ensure that the Facility is operated in a safe, reliable, and economic manner; consistent with the site Operations and Maintenance (O&M) agreement, contracts, permits, rules, regulations, and written instructions from the Facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and safety

  • The Plant Manager is ultimately responsible for producing a safe and hazard-free work environment for the facility.
  • This position requires continuous engagement with plant staff at all levels to identify, correct and ensure effectiveness of controls related to hazards and their respective risks during normal and maintenance activities throughout the facility.
  • The Plant Manager must lead by example utilizing a high working knowledge of the Contour Global H&S management system and respective safe work practices i.e. Permit to Work, Management of Change, Contractor Safety etc.
  • The Plant Manager should actively participate in Health & Safety activities not limited to routine inspection, incident investigation, engagement with regulatory authorities and visible felt leadership with all persons (contractor and company employees) as a part of their routine work.
  • Ensure all Incidents and potential adverse events (i.e. Near Misses) are quickly communicated to Operational Leadership and Health & Safety site/regional support.

 

Main Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring that all Plant employees and Plant objectives are in alignment with Client requirements.
  • Administer the Plant's Safety, Operations, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Compliance, Maintenance, Administrative, Training, Chemistry, and
  • Environmental Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs; to assure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant.
  • Responsible for directing or performing all commercial activities; including budgeting, procurement administration of major plant contracts (such as power sales, fuel purchases, and long-term service agreements), and plant-level financial reporting.
  • Primary contact with permitting regulatory agencies, and the local community; including leading Community Relations activities.
  • Manage and oversee the planning, budgeting, contracting, and performance of planned and unplanned Plant outages.
  • Administer major Plant contracts, including power sales agreements, fuel purchase agreements, and long-term service agreements. Prepare and administer operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee all financial activities at the Plant, including plant level financial reporting.
  • Implement training and qualification programs to assure, that plant procedures are understood and properly followed, by all Plant employees.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of Plant policies and procedures, to assure they reflect current plant operating requirements.
  • Direct the sourcing, screening, and hiring of new or replacement employees, as needed.
  • Determine Plant training objectives, employee development needs; and work with plant management team to provide coaching, career counselling, and development opportunities.
  • Verify that the certification status of affected Operations and Maintenance employees is currently maintained.
  • Ensure that at all times, the morale and motivation of Plant employees, is maintained at a high level.
  • Oversee the preparation of required client and utility reports, budgets, environmental compliance reports, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring the realization of Social Projects fulfilling the CG procedures.

 

Continuous improvement

  • Encourage Plant personnel to identify and initiate operational improvements and
  • innovations that will enhance plant safety and reliability, work productivity, cost reduction, and quality of client service.
  • Provide an organizational framework to capture, implement, and reward operational improvement initiatives.

 

MANAGEMENT

  • Provide direction and oversight to plant personnel including objective setting and performance reviews.
  • Ensure training and development of plant personnel.
  • Resolve employee issues on site, engaging Human Resources as necessary.
  • Be responsible for the effectiveness of the Management System and its integration into business processes.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Plant Manager reports to the COO USA and supervises plant employees. The Plant Manager is the single point of contact regarding all matters pertaining to the operation, maintenance, and commercial management of the plant.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extensive Power Plant technical and leadership experience, with a work history that demonstrates a pattern of accomplishments and advancement.
  • Experience in Power Plant start-ups and commissioning is highly desired.
  • A technical undergraduate degree, or equivalent work experience, is required.
  • Experience supervising technical, supervisory, and hourly employees; and strong leadership and motivational skills required. 
  • Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods, as well as stair and ladder climbing.
  • Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment, etc.).
  • Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and Plant conditions. "On-call" status will periodically be required.
  • Some travel may be required, to participate in Manager, User Group, or other offsite meetings.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness-for-Duty Program.
  • There are extensive smoking restrictions, in and around the facility.

 

Travel RequirementsThis position will require occasional business trips.
