Job Summary:

ContourGlobal is seeking an impactful, broad-thinking, and results-driven executive to serve as Head of M&A for the Americas Region. This is a newly created, high profile position that will play a critical role in planning and executing ContourGlobal’s next phase of growth and transformation.

 

The Head of M&A, Americas plays an important leadership role in our efforts to originate, evaluate, negotiate, and close acquisitions and divestitures of utility-scale generation and storage assets and platforms. S/he will bring a proven ability to drive deal flow and strengthen our positioning by delivering high-quality and profitable projects that meet all investor requirements. S/he will be expected to analyze the internal and external business environment of a potential project and craft a compelling strategy for ContourGlobal to invest. The SVP of M&A Americas shall also be a role model and advance ContourGlobal’s culture of entrepreneurial growth, high standards of corporate governance and integrity.

Key Activities & Accountabilities:

  • Drive M&A strategy and origination generating attractive opportunities to expand ContourGlobal's presence in Americas with focus in US, Mexico and LATAM markets.
  • Track market dynamics develop a relationship network in our key target markets and continually understand the commercial and regulatory frameworks by skillfully navigating each market’s framework.
  • Apply creative problem solving and analytical skills to identify and communicate actionable insights. Anticipate potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Manage overall business development process, ensuring compliance, flexibility, and engagement by executing each step of the investment decision process including preparation of investment memos, Board presentations and other reports that might be required.
  • Lead due diligence processes coordinating internal multidisciplinary teams as well as advisors. 
  • Ensure our projects are managed under the highest standards by properly and accurately controlling and reporting the project’s budget and capital needs. Ensure adherence of all business development activities to our compliance policy.
  • Ensure that financial models prepared for project evaluation are accurate and effective, follows our modelling guidelines and enables a robust decision-making process through the evaluation of risks and sensitivities.
  • Lead the negotiation of M&A transactional documentation and support the structuring of acquisition financings or post-closing financial restructurings.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Industry background focused on energy generation, renewables and ideally gas, as a corporate M&A lead, investment banker, or private equity investor; exposure to both North and South America is a strong plus.
  • Minimum of ten years of relevant experience involving M&A, corporate development, and strategy with knowledge of mechanics of due diligence, market analysis, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and acquisition integration.
  • Solid understanding of the U.S. power markets, its economic drivers and available incentives for renewables and storage projects.
  • Excellent business, financial, and commercial acumen and project management skills to facilitate strategic planning, business reviews, market and opportunity assessments, and financial analysis of opportunities
  • Excellent executive presence and communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability build relationships with and influence up, down, and across the organization as well as potential external partners and advisors
  • Experience working for an investor or an investor-owned organization is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in relevant industry, business administration, or business management preferred.
  • 8-10 years of experience at a financial institution or strategic company working on energy or infrastructure investments
  • Fluent in English. Any additional language is a plus
  • Willingness and interest to travel as required by the role
  • Excellent academic qualifications preferably with a master’s degree in finance or business
