Overall responsibility

You will be responsible for the implementation of  KivuWatt Environment Management  System, Chemical Analysis and Lake Management Program. The time distribution is as follows:

  1. Environment management- 60%
  2. Plant chemistry- 10%
  3. Lake water quality monitoring- 30%

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Ensure timely development, review and implementation of KivuWatt Environment Procedures as per KivuWatt Environment Management System, ContourGlobal HSE Standards and ISO 14001: 2015.
  2. Develop and implement monthly environment training and awareness plan covering all employees, departments, onsite contractors and other stakeholders.
  3. Compile and submit accurate environment data and reports on ContourGlobal Environment online database (Intelex), government and other stakeholders (i.e. Lender).
  4. Schedule and conduct regular environment audits and assessments in line with Rwanda Environment laws, ContourGlobal and KivuWatt internal requirements and audit schedule. Additionally, establish a system of managing all deviations and nonconformities that may arise from audits in a timely and effective manner.
  5. Enhance KivuWatt capabilities in preventing environment incidents and pollution by conducting scheduled environmental monitoring of emissions, effluent, noise and ambient air.
  6. Develop a robust waste management program that ensures water segregation, characterization and disposal in a manner that that is compliant with all applicable requirements.
  7. Identify and develop a register of all local and international environmental legislations and conduct quarterly evaluation sessions to confirm KivuWatt compliance level.
  8. Collaborate into the operation of the Near-Plant and Far-Plant Lake Monitoring Program scheduled in the Lake Monitoring Plan. The lake monitoring campaigns are conducted daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly.
  9. Collaborate closely with managers for the processing, analysis and interpretation of the lake monitoring data, and prepare the reports.
  10. Conduct Power Plant and Gas Extraction Facility operational chemical sampling and analysis including:
    1. Cooling water sampling and analysis for major equipment
    2. Lube oil sampling and analysis for major equipment
    3. Reporting of the analysis results for both cooling water and lube oil with appropriate recommendations or actions to be taken
    4. Ensure proper chemical dozing for the Water treatment unit
    5. Monitor and control the stock for all chemical consumables used in Water Treatment Plant, Oily Water Treatment Unit and engine cooling water additives.

Job requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering or any other relevant field
  2. Possession of a masters degree will be an added advantage
  3. 5 years relevant working experience in environment management, preferably in energy or manufacturing industry.
  4. Professional training and qualification in environment management system or other relevant management system (ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001: 2015, NEBOSH certificate in environment management, etc ) is required.
  5. Possess working knowledge of Rwanda Environment laws and relevant Regional or IFC/World Bank EHS guidelines
  6. Experience in water and oil sampling and analysis at industrial environment is desirable.
  7. Experience in lake or ocean water quality analysis is desirable.
