Job Summary
The HSE Intern supports the implementation and continuous improvement of the Company's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Management System to promote a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. Working under the guidance of the HSE Manager and HSE Officer, the intern assists in monitoring compliance with HSE policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices while gaining practical experience in power generation operations, maintenance activities, contractor management, environmental protection, and emergency preparedness.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing the Company's Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Management System.
- Participate in routine HSE inspections of the power plant, workshops, warehouses, offices, and operational areas.
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments (JSA/JHA), and implementation of risk control measures.
- Monitor compliance with safe work practices, including Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, working at height, lifting operations, hot work, and electrical safety requirements.
- Conduct routine safety observations and report unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near misses.
- Assist in incident and accident investigations, including data collection, root cause analysis, and preparation of investigation reports.
- Support environmental monitoring activities, including waste segregation, hazardous waste management, spill prevention, emissions monitoring, and pollution control.
- Assist in monitoring the proper use, inspection, and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills, spill response exercises, and evacuation drills.
- Assist in delivering HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Monitor contractor compliance with Company HSE requirements during maintenance and project activities.
- Maintain HSE records, inspection reports, training records, incident statistics, and regulatory documentation.
- Assist in preparing weekly and monthly HSE performance reports and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Support internal and external HSE audits and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging compliance with Company HSE standards and reporting of hazards.
- Perform any other HSE-related duties assigned by the HSE Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Recent graduate or student eligible for an internship program.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Basic understanding of occupational health and safety principles and environmental management.
- Knowledge of HSE legislation and international standards (ISO 45001 and ISO 14001) is an added advantage.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, observation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an industrial environment and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates integrity, attention to detail, initiative, accountability, adaptability, and a strong commitment to safety and continuous learning.
