Job Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement of gas-fired power plant equipment. This role involves planning and executing maintenance programs, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The Senior Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with the maintenance and operations teams to reduce downtime and enhance equipment performance while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities and Duties:
In the position of Senior Maintenance Mechanical Engineer, the employee shall have the following responsibilities
- Ensure that the Contourglobal (CG) Policies are fully understood and followed at the Power Plant (including CG Essential information _ Company Values, Anti-Corruption, Supplier Code of Conduct, Health Safety & Environment, obligations to local communities, etc)
- Ensure the Health, Safety & Environmental obligations with respect to Contourglobal Policies, Lenders & other legislations (locally or regionally) are strictly followed and are timely reported.
- A close follow-up of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) activities on site with respect to Power generation at the Power Plant. Additionally, ensuring that the main procedures are duly implemented and followed, for instance: Permit To Work (PTW), Job Safety and Environmental Analyses (JSEA), Lock-Out/Tag-out (LOTO) procedures are being respected; Safety rules are being respected, correct wearing of PPEs, site access control, vehicle management, incident reporting etc. HSE site and work inspections are being done (including inspection level 1 and level 2 as per CG policies)
- Be a project sponsor in corporate environmental and social responsibility activities undertaking by CG & Kivuwatt Ltd
- Observe CG and KivuWatt Ltd information confidentiality obligation
- Execute daily maintenance activities by leading teams according to their skill set mapping for efficiency and improvement team performance
- Perform all scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance activities of all equipment (MLS, on-shore and off-shore plant; gas and diesel engines, gas pipeline systems, structures & common auxiliaries, Cranes and offshore gas extraction facility engines, structures, compressors, coolers and chillers, pumps, HPU, Nitrogen generators, wash water towers, separators and pumps, GaRe, Inergen and FIFI systems) as per OEMs manuals instructions and maintenance schedule.
- Analyze mechanical performance data and trends to identify issues and recommend improvements
- Support Maintenance Supervisor in SAP Enterprise Resource Planning implementation and material reconciliation to ensure the material master data list errors are eliminated.
- Assist Maintenance Supervisor in the review of equipment on work orders, timesheet hours for employees and contractors, parts usage, work order type, closing and reports
- Communicate timely the scope, schedule and duration for projected planned outage to other stakeholders for additional activities management.
- Ensure the data for parts (e.g. Part numbers, quantities, versions and SAP material numbers), assets (e.g. asset numbers, location and parts and labour charging) are accurate
- Assists warehouse team with technical and product specific inventory knowledge when and if needed
- Actively support in continuous improvement through failure analyses (including 5 whys analysis) and reviews of the technical and financial impact of unplanned maintenance and aim at reduction of unplanned maintenance.
- Support warehouse with inventory audits with regular stock taking.
- Perform mechanical diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime
- Prepare timely maintenance logs and running records for monthly reports in clear and concise manner as required in by the guidelines
- Utilize all maintenance of tools in a manner to maximize their useful operating life.
- Ensure that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) instructions are implemented and followed as required for economical and safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Act immediately and responsibly in case of fire, gas release, emergency alarm and accident with aim of minimising property damage, casualties or fatalities on site as may be assigned.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance staff.
- Ensure maintenance department monthly KPIs are met, and report submitted on or before due date
- Participate actively in Management of Change (MoC) proposal and reviews
- Perform other activities as may be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or Mechatronics) or equivalent to that degree/ Engineering diploma with relevant industry experience
- 5 years' experience (at least 4years' experience in power Industry) gas fired power plant and offshore industrial installation
- Training and work experience involving the utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) will be an added advantage.
- Good level (written and spoken) in English and French (optional)
- Proficiently in Microsoft Office products such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Power Point & Adobe.
Skills and Compentences
- Perform minor and major vertical turbine pumps and engine and equipment overhauls respecting the measurements and specifications
- Extended knowledge of Wartsila 34SG engines, MWM and Caterpillar gas engines.
- Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostic techniques, and maintenance practices.
- Actively participate & enhance teamwork.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
