The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of projects (depending on technology and/or location and/or size and/or complexity), the support of development as required and then receiving and signing off the assumption book of the project (handover from BD to Construction and implementation), and construction the projects. This may include maximizing efficiency in the implementation of detailed project plans, keeping track of goals, tasks, resources, schedules, costs, and contingencies. He/She must be able to effectively manage multiple competing demands on their time and attention while also working with external stakeholders. The accountability over the project will be completed with the handover to Operations (without any pending on HSE topic and any relevant limitation to normal operation).

The Project Manager will report to the Head of Engineering and Construction

 Key Responsibilities:

The execution of the project in accordance with the assumption book with the HSEQ standards and in time and cost. Management of the construction (back office and  site), Cost Management, Time Management, Quality Management, Contract Administration, Safety Management, work in coordination with the project team, PMO and support functions; defining the responsibilities and management structure of the project site team, organizing and leading by implementing project controls, defining roles and responsibilities and developing communication protocols, and identifying elements of project design and construction likely to give rise to disputes and claims.

 

  • Where necessary support the transition from Development to execution of the project, this may include permitting, detailed design or contract negotiations, HSEQ.
  • Ensure the implementation and compliance of the highest standards of Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality on the entire construction process and particularly on-site.
  • Coordinate with the PMO, Contract Managers and other relevant support functions all project’s activities, reporting.
  • Proactively monitor the S progress curve for E-P-C, and implement and or request the actions to recover any relevant deviation.   
  • Monitor General Contractor’s and sub-contractors’ adherence to its Health and Safety policy including site safe working procedures and local regulations.
  • Monitor the on-site construction team’s performance, including holding meetings on a regular basis.
  • The Construction Manager will be ContourGlobal’s (in back office and on-site together with the Construction Manager or Site Manager) representative managing the General Contractor relationship, including monitoring, measuring, evaluating and reporting the scheduled progress of the General Contractor to ContourGlobal Project Manager.
  • Avoidance of delays, changes and disputes.
  • Monitoring the compliance of the agreed General Constractor’s standards for design and work of on-site technical, commercial and quality; this will include the adherence to ContourGlobal corporate standards. Enhancing project design and construction quality.
  • Optimum use of design and construction firms' skills and talents.
  • Coordinating with the General Contractor and ContourGlobal’s subcontractors as required contract compliance, technical compliance, scope changes, change orders, ContourGlobal directed changes and extensions of time.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports (e.g. weekly, monthly, milestone completion, payment certificate, PAC, FAC, others) in the standard format that demonstrate and provide information to Senior Management that the projects currently in execution are being managed for a successful outcome (including monthly cash flows and accounting as required).
  • Ensure all project information is properly understood by site staff including costs, design, schedules, procurement, construction issues, contractor invoices and payments, funding requirements, change order notifications and any issues that could impact the construction progress.
  • Assist in developing and implementing contingency plans to recover project costs or schedule slippage together with the Management when necessary.
  • Control of the scope of the work.
  • Project scheduling.
  • Optimum flexibility in contracting and procurement.
  • Oversee all support activities such as procurement, custom duties, delivery, sustainability, environmental, compliance, etc.
  • Ensure the compliance of all environmental plans and environmental compliance durirg the construction period.
  • Work closely with the O&M manager in all related matters and particularly on time mobilization of the O&M team at the right time of construction.
  • Ensure timely resolution of issues and deficiencies and develop and implement contingency plans to recover project costs or schedule slippage when necessary, proactively adopt cost efficient actions.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science and 12 years of experience including operational and management experience in engineering and construction of power assets.
  • Construction experience in renewable power generation assets is plus. 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, technical excellence and management skills and strong planning and budgeting skills.
  • Fluent English read/writing is mandatory, Spanish for position in Chile is also mandatory.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills.  Must be able to address issues with general contractors, sub- contractor and Owner Engineer in an effective manner to secure cooperation for the successful outcome of the project. 
  • Knowledgeable of project management and scheduling IT tools.
  • Must be able to travel within different sites globaly on a regular basis and may be required to spend significant time on site if necessary.

 

Location and traveling:

The Project manager will be in Spain/Madrid.

Traveling locally or internationally is part of this function.
