Engineering Leader BEES (Milan, Madrid, Sofia)

The Team Leader Engineering BEES will develop Batteries plants according to country specific grid code that he/she needs to know deeply. He/she will design optimal solutions, reducing losses and degradation by comparing in multiple design iterations different solutions with progressive optimization of layout/components. He/she will need to know state of the art components, their performance, capex and opex costs and support the procurement department in the comparison of energy losses and degradation for the intended operation mode agreed with the commercial team during the business development phase. He/she will also manage external engineering company to review and tune the final project design. Cooperate strictly with Construction team and procurement office for the success of the project. He/she will be key in evaluating greenfield projects to be developed/acquired and general contractor design in order to assess and optimize the final outcome. This key member of the Engineering team embodies curiosity and creativity, innovating constantly to optimize IRR through multiple tools and deep knowledge of latest technology trends. He is an optimization evangelist who truly enjoys a creative and driven approach to building high value battery and hybrid plants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Development and Implementation

• Create utility scale Batteries field design, including equipment selection, charge/discharge losses and degradation modeling, optimization of design to achieve the highest performing integrated systems. Cooperate with colleagues to optimize hybrid plants.
• Conduct engineering reviews and technical due diligence, including evaluation of system components, cables sizing, configuration, and environmental conditions to confirm reliable charge/discharge process and optimize capacity of the components, energy discharge at the right time and volume for an optimal LCOE. He/she reviews, comments and validate basic and preliminary design and any other engineering step of the outsourced engineering company and the execution design.
• Identify new technologies to maximize internal rate of return (…).
• Cooperate with Procurement Function to assess the technical offers and proposals to ensure compliance with the requirements of the project and the comparability between all the offers to select the best value for money components and services. 
• Support Construction team to solve technical issues and modifications and visit the plants, once under construction to overview compliance with the design.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of technical data consistent with engineering best policies and practices.
• Confirm with industry standards to optimize project designs for constraints, including geography, schedule, scope and financial constraints.
• Prepare other technical documents, reports, and calculations as necessary.
• Build a small team to support the above activities as the pipeline grows.

Project Assessment

• Run various production estimates in pursuit of highest IRR using specialized software tools, as input for financial models.
• Develop energy losses and degradation assessments to aid in the optimization of high value projects.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• At least 5 years’ experience designing and optimizing utility scale battery/hybrid projects.
• A history of success in complex batteries projects.
• Knowledge of the renewable energy industry, and development processes related to large scale wind, solar, hybrid and storage plants.
• Strong project management skills with experience with relational databases to track and report information.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
• Proven ability to build strong professional relationships and work in a team.

Travel Requirements – up to 20%, upon business needs.
