Senior Wind Specialist

Job Summary:
As Senior Wind Specialist, you will join our Engineering and Construction team! In this role, you will report to Head of Engineering and Construction and will have the opportunity to be responsible for the design, modeling, specification, and optimization of utility-scale wind power projects. This position provides advanced engineering support during development, due diligence, and investment assessment phases and is instrumental in defining technical strategies for both greenfield and acquisition projects.
The role requires a comprehensive understanding of wind resource analysis, project layout optimization, electrical design, grid interconnection, and hybrid integration. As an internal consultant, the Senior Wind Specialist will interact with multidisciplinary teams and external partners, ensuring that technical decisions are robust, compliant, and aligned with performance and cost-efficiency objectives. Key Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:
Project Development and Implementation:
- Design utility-scale wind farms, including turbine layout, road and grid access, and electrical integration with transmission networks.
- Optimize wind farm performance using advanced simulation tools (e.g., WAsP, WindPro, OpenWind, Meteodyn WT).
- Conduct and validate energy yield assessments (EYAs) and wind resource measurement campaigns (masts, LIDAR, SODAR).
- Specify main equipment including wind turbines, substations, and control/protection systems.
- Review and validate third-party technical designs, and interface with EPC contractors and OEMs.
- Participate in plant construction reviews and ensure compliance with the approved design.
Technical Due Diligence and Investment Support:
- Provide engineering support in the evaluation of greenfield and acquisition opportunities.
- Assess technical risks, feasibility, and compliance with interconnection and grid code requirements.
- Prepare and review techno-economic studies and documentation for investment committees.
Collaboration and Technical Leadership:
- Support procurement processes by assessing technical proposals and ensuring alignment with project specifications.
- Coordinate with Development and Construction teams to resolve technical issues across project phases.
- Lead internal technical discussions and external consultations with developers, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
Your profile is a natural match if you have:
- Education: University degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Physics preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing, evaluation, and execution of utility-scale wind projects. Proven track record in resource assessment, layout optimization, feasibility analysis, and technical leadership.
- Skills: Fluent in English (mandatory).
Mastery of wind simulation tools (e.g., WAsP, WindPro, WindFarmer, Meteodyn).
Knowledge of transmission interconnection standards and regulatory frameworks.
Familiarity with hybrid systems and energy storage integration is considered an asset.
Strong capability in reviewing and specifying wind turbines and electrical infrastructure.
- Travel requirements: This role requires frequent national & international travel.
